Metalloids or metal men, are created with the help of a special “force-radiating instrument” capable of transforming human flesh into “invulnerable metal” (WF No. 143, Aug 1964: “The Feud Between Batman and Superman!”; “The Manhunters from Earth!”). Both Than-Ar and his evil brother Jhan-Ar transform themselves into Metalloids for very different reasons.
